Phlebotomy Technician — Certification Program
Program Overview
The Phlebotomy Technician program is designed to prepare students to become certified phlebotomists. Phlebotomists work as members of medical teams in a hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers and other health care facility to draw blood and analyze specimens.
Objectives
By the end of the program students will be able to:
- · Prepare tools for drawing blood
- · Read and understand blood works requisitions
- · Draw blood from patients and blood donors;
- · Evaluate patients’ ability to withstand procedure;
- · Explain blood-drawing procedure to patients and answer questions;
- · Prepare blood, urine and other specimens for testing;
- · Perform basic point of care testing, such as blood glucose levels;
- · Sit for certification with the National Healthcareers Association
